"The best ideas start as conversations"

Conversation Hub is a group of people who meet to practice speaking and listening in their “target” language. By target language we mean a 2nd, 3rd, or additional language someone is learning to converse in.

Members can help one another or the community to solve problems or simply discuss issues.

Anyone who wants to practice a language. No one is excluded and all are welcome. Currently, all language Conversation Hubs meet online. In the near future, English and Hindi hubs will also be offline at the SJC Language Centre location — but they can also meet at other public places like a coffee shop or park. We meet at a convenient time for the members, once or twice a month (whatever is agreed upon). Evenings are often better for professionals and the weekend works well for students.

The time is agreed upon by members and the Hub leaders.

During the Hub meetings,

1) we conduct the meetings in the target language,

2) members and leaders participate in conversations, skits, role-plays, interviews, and discussions of events to help improve the community.

The main goal is to practice the target language. Leaders are not necessarily teachers, they act as coaches and guides. Meetings should be fun, interesting, and supportive times, allowing everyone to participate. However, leaders are not necessarily teachers, so lessons are not prepared. They are coaches and guides. Meetings should be a safe, supportive place where people talk about topics and ideas without fear. Their like-mindedness is in their language.

We currently have the following Conversation Hubs
